Cryosurgery

 Cryosurgery is a cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure that uses extreme cold to eliminate abnormal or diseased tissue. By applying liquid nitrogen or other cryogenic agents directly to the targeted area, we can destroy unwanted tissue without the need for traditional surgical incisions.

 Cryosurgery is typically performed under local anesthesia or light sedation to ensure your pet’s comfort. The affected area is treated with a cryogenic agent, freezing the targeted tissue. Over time, the frozen tissue naturally falls off, allowing for healthy skin to regenerate.

Long or short term side effects of cryotherapy may include:

• Skin pigment changes
• Hair colour changes or hair loss at the treated area
• Sensory impairment
• Scarring
• Infection

Redness of the treated area will occur within a few days of cryotherapy after which the treated area will begin to necrose, scab over, and eventually fall off. Up to four treatments of cryotherapy spaced 2-4 weeks apart may be needed in order to fully treat the affected are

 When compared to traditional surgery, cryosurgery is cost-effective, requires fewer follow up appointments, and typically involves a much shorter recovery period.  Cryotherapy traditionally requires at least 2 treatments.
