Healing with the speed of light.
Healing with the speed of light.
PHOVIA is a state-of-the-art fluorescent light therapy now available at Cutting Edge Pet Clinic. We are one of the few clinics in our area offering this advanced treatment, designed to support faster healing and healthier skin for pets—comfortably, safely, and without pain.
What Conditions Can PHOVIA Help With?
This treatment may help speed healing and improve comfort for dogs, cats, and even horses with a variety of skin and wound concerns, including:
Hot Spots (Acute Moist Dermatitis)
PHOVIA may help calm inflamed skin, reduce irritation, and support faster healing in pets prone to hot spots caused by allergies, moisture, or excessive licking.
Bite Wounds & Minor Trauma-Related Skin Injuries
For superficial wounds and skin trauma, PHOVIA can support tissue repair and promote a healthier healing environment while improving comfort.
Lesions from Continuous Licking
Pets that lick excessively can develop chronic skin lesions that are slow to heal. PHOVIA may help reduce inflammation and encourage skin recovery when used alongside other treatments.
Traumatic Wounds & Abrasions
PHOVIA can be used to support healing of traumatic skin injuries by stimulating repair processes in the affected tissues.
Skin Infections & Irritated Skin Conditions
In cases of irritated, inflamed, or compromised skin, this treatment may help improve skin health and support recovery when combined with appropriate medical care.
Surgical Incisions & Post-Procedure Healing
PHOVIA may be used to support smoother healing of surgical incisions by encouraging tissue regeneration and helping reduce inflammation during recovery.
Prompt evaluation can be critical in preventing complications and improving outcomes. If your pet’s condition appears to worsen rapidly or you notice sudden changes in behavior, appetite, or movement, it’s best not to wait.
What Is PHOVIA?
PHOVIA is an innovative, clinically supported two-part system that combines:
A specialized chromophore gel, and
A blue LED lamp
When used together, they produce multi-wavelength fluorescent light energy that penetrates the skin to different depths. Unlike many traditional treatments that work only at the surface, this treatment can stimulate beneficial responses in multiple skin layers—helping the body’s natural healing process work more efficiently.
In simple terms: PHOVIA shines therapeutic light onto dermatologic and wound-related issues to support faster, healthier healing.
Is PHOVIA a Type of Laser Therapy?
No. PHOVIA is not laser therapy.
Laser therapy often requires longer treatment sessions and more frequent visits. PHOVIA works differently: the blue LED light interacts with the chromophore gel to generate fluorescence. This fluorescence is what delivers the therapeutic benefit to the skin. A traditional therapy laser does not create the same effect and is not a substitute for PHOVIA.
What to Expect During a PHOVIA Appointment
This treatment is fast and simple—most sessions take only a few minutes from start to finish.
During your pet’s visit, you can expect:
Skin Preparation
The treatment area is gently cleaned to prepare the skin.
Chromophore Gel Application
A special gel is applied evenly over the affected area.
Protective Eye Safety
Veterinary team members wear protective goggles, and we take precautions to ensure a safe treatment environment.
2-Minute Light Cycle
The LED lamp is held close to the skin surface for a short light cycle—typically about 2 minutes.
Gel Removal & Discharge
After the cycle, the gel is removed, the area is cleaned, and your pet is ready to go home.
Most pets tolerate PHOVIA very well, and the process is designed to be low-stress and comfortable.
